An exploration of the intersection between journalism and visual art. A mixed-media, newspaper-based collage series and social media activation campaign aimed at inspiring change while raising awareness for the violent oppression that women are currently subject to in Iran - greatly inspired by a lack of media coverage on the subject.

WomAN, LIFE, FREEDOM.

Living under an authoritarian regime, Iranian citizens are currently victims of violent oppression where abuse is running rampant, as their civil liberties are being stripped from them at an alarming rate.

In September 2022, protests erupted across Iran in response to the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini — a young woman who had been detained and murdered for dressing against the law.

Since then, protestors have taken a call to action, and they are risking their lives in hopes of fighting for their basic freedoms.

As of today, an estimated 30,000 young men and women have been arrested during the uprising and detained under inhuman conditions in overcrowded prisons.

This series highlights those struggles in an attempt to spark social change.

The problem -

There is a lack of media coverage on the Woman, Life, Freedom movement. Political content tends to be filtered out of the public eye by algorithms, so presenting it as art as opposed to political content will help to trick algorithms into making these posts more visible
